Our History
A rich history
The Hockey Section was formed in 1948 by Almena Theobald from ex-pupils of Christchurch Secondary Modern School for Girls. When the School closed in 1961, it became an independent, open Ladies’ Club.
In September 2016, Grasshoppers Ladies’ Hockey Club merged with Christchurch Ladies.
We are proud to have celebrated our 70th Anniversary in 2018 and throughout the years have accomplished many sporting achievements, some of which are listed below:
- 1st XI won the Premier Division of the Suffolk League which promoted them to the East Region League in September 2010 – the team has continued to play at this high level.
- Over the years, the players have enjoyed playing regularly within the local leagues, tournaments and on tour.
- Almena Theobald was nominated for the ‘Unsung Hero’ category at the England Hockey Awards in 2018.
